I love summer. I mean making your own schedule around all the fun stuff you can pack into two months of sunshiny bliss. What could be more awesome? Other than being a girl Rich Froning. Now, that guy has it right. Workout…Win the CrossFit Games… Repeat…

Anyhow, summer was over for me and lots and lots of other teachers today. Today was The Day. The day we all gather for meetings and try to get our head screwed on straight before all the anxious students arrive next week. But, it was also The Day my child went to stay with someone for the FIRST time EVER. EVER. (besides family and a two others from church that have stayed with her at our house) I know she’ll be two in December, but it felt like the day I went back after maternity leave! <--- Back here in a few.

I love my job. I really truly love my job. I love the people I work with and for with all my heart and it just “fits” me perfectly. I couldn’t help, but think that today.

Background: (for all 2 of you readers out there lol!) I teach PE and weightlifting (CrossFit) at Pickens High School in South Carolina. Where I graduated from! Imagine that. Coming back to your high school straight out of college to teach kids almost your age… it was definitely not in my big plan. But, I am so glad the God saw fit to allow it. I initially only wanted to teach elementary school and after being persuaded decided to give high school PE a try. Here I am… January will be seven years!

Initially, not so much a loving feeling as a feeling of I think I can I think I can… then my thoughts were okay.. whew, I made it to Christmas break, Spring break, or whatever break was next. I basically just survived my first year… I think all teachers can attest to the crazy, hectic, world of your first year as a real live teacher. But, somehow it changed to a big appreciation of a job that I actually really enjoy. I mean I get to teach students CrossFit at school! Something I love, to kids who want to do it (they have to sign up for it), with people I love to be around. Thanks to one of my very best buds, Jon Wilson, our school is starting its 6th year being affiliated with CFit! (Blue Flame CrossFit) What is cooler? Really? I have tried to think of jobs I’d rather have or what I would do if I could do something different… and the list is fairly short:

Jobs I might take over mine:

  • Professional CrossFitter

  • Some crazy overseas job saving the world

  • Actress (only in really Bad A (sorry needed for drift catching) parts: Maggie on Walking Dead, Katniss Everdeen, etc.

So until the Lord just completely slaps me in the face telling me to take a different job or one of the three listed above become available I guess they are stuck with me. J Don’t get me wrong there are those days. (You know the ones momma said there’d be) But, the other days far outweigh those.

Plus, what other job do you actually get a 2 month break? Seriously, when we as teachers think how hard it is to come back off of a long break. (Reality Check Coming) There are millions of people working for a week of vacation once a year that may not even enjoy their job! I can’t imagine going to work every day and not enjoying my job!

Most importantly- above enjoying it- past 2 month breaks- & CF… we have a big platform for making a difference and being that one person who was nice on that one particular day that wasn’t going quit as planned for that one kid who no one ever smiles at, but that one day they did. J

XOXO, Brittany

Joz's first day at Ms. Robin's, our new babysitter! She walked straight in and started playing this morning! I was so proud of her, but at the same time a little sad. But, it could have been crying and screaming so I'll take it any day!!

I texted and ask how she was doing this morning and Robin sweetly sent this picture. I love it so much! I looked at it probably 20 times today. (Snow White back there is ours) We are so excited about Ms. Robin's and new friends!

Back to lunch break workouts at school today! Excited to push harder now that schools back in and I can workout more in our weightroom instead of in my garage. Also, ready to get my nutrition back in rhythm. :))
